Check Your Testosterone Levels:
It is common knowledge that once a man get's into his 40's he should be screened for colon cancer and have his prostate checked. There is increasing evidence of the important role testosterone has on a mans overall health and mental state. Testosterone is a vital hormone responsible for giving a man his male characteristics. Testosterone also plays an important role in energy levels, immune system function and even mental health. There is increasing evidence that a variety of pollutants in our modern environment have a direct correlation to a decreas in testosterone levels. Having a testosterone level in the correct range is vital to your overall health. While a simple blood test can be done to see how high your hormone levels are if "Free Testosterone" is not checked as part of that test you are getting an essentially useless and incomplete picture of the situation. Usually the tests that can be done over the course of an hour do not check "Free" testosterone levels.
Before you decide to chain yourself to a testosterone therapy under the care of your physician you should be aware of the risks and dangers associated with such treatments. And there are natural supplements you can take to boost your "T-Levels" without a prescription and the side effects that come with prescription therapy. While the advice of your doctor should always be the ultimate rule we urge men with low testosterone to try and raise that number naturally and also be aware of potential risks and side effects associated with medical grade testosterone replacement therapy.
The Importance of Testosterone:
Dr. Joel Finkelstein at Massachusetts General Hospital conducted a study funded in part by the NIA's National Institute on Aging. In this study 400 healthy men between the ages of 20 and 50. Participants were injected with a drug to supress normal testosterone and estradiol production and assigned to 5 randomized groups which recieved differing amounts of testosterone supplementation, ranging from 0 - 10 grams of a topical 1% testosterone gel for 16 weeks. Half of all participants were also given a drug that essentially blocks testosterone from being converted to estradiol. Every 4 weeks the patients had blood drawn as well as completed questionanaires to ascertain their physical function, health status, vitality and overall sexual health. Additionally, body fat and muscle measurements were taken at the beginning and end of the 16 weeks study.
The study showed a reduction in lean mass, muscle size, and leg-press strength resulting from a decrease in testosterone and increases in body fat were correlated to "Low-T" levels as well. Testosterone levels were also strongly correlated with libido and erectile function as well as cognitive issues and feelings of being unwell and a decrease in the ability to concentrate and function.
"This study establishes testosterone levels at which various physiological functions start to become impaired, which may help provide a rationale for determining which men should be treated with testosterone supplements," Finkelstein says. "But the biggest surprise was that some of the symptoms routinely attributed to testosterone deficiency are actually partially or almost exclusively caused by the decline in estrogens that is an inseparable result of lower testosterone levels."

The Down Side of Medical Testosterone Replacement Therapy:
When you begin to introduce synthetic steroids into your body in pure form the body naturally responds by actually further decreasing the amount of testosterone it produces. The entire body does this in order to maintain an equilibrium in almost all physiological areas. If you take pain medication your body will stop producing dopamine and then when you stop you will go into withdrawal and get sick. Most men do not fully realize "Testosterone Replacement Therapy" is not something they can just start and stop without consequence and if they are going to be in it they better be ready to be in it for the long haul. This can mean potential consequences if therapy is not strictly adhered to. And the cost can be exorbidant. Current "Low Testosterone Centers" often get men into programs that are similar to auto billing programs where you literally buy year long packages that cost thousands of dollars and you have to go in to have the drug injected every week. We have heard that guys are often nudged into this treatment without really fully understanding what their getting into. And understanding completely when they stop taking the stuff it can leave them in an even more severe state of hypogonadism which comes with the same effects mentioned in the study above including fatigue, weight loss, a decrease in muscle mass, an increase in body fat, irritability and general depression.
There is even potentially a chance that the bodies natural system that manufactures testosterone could permanently be altered and never fully turn back on to the same level of production before you started injecting steroids and without continual and ongoing therapy your hypogonadism could be worse than it was before. And you may end up having to take testosterone injections the rest of your life. That really sounds absurd to us outside of the most extreme cases and we believe the stuff is being way over prescribed for the sake of profit. There are herbs out there such as Predoxen and Red Rhino made of high potency Indonesian Tongkat Ali that you can supplement with diet and exercise that will activate testosterone production in a completely different way that is completely safe. Tongkat Ali tricks your brain into thinking it has too little testosterone so it will actually begin producing more. With medically prescribed injections your body will actually begin to produce less testosterone and that system will basically go into hybernation and your testicles will actually literally shrink. Tongkat Ali works in a completely oppisite way and will actually make that system stronger.
We think that medical therapy is drastically over prescribed and should be a last line treatment to try and fix the issue in severe cases. The risks associated with it are just not acceptable.
Risks of Testosterone Therapy for Normal Aging?
We believe medical intervention for hypogonadism should be an absolute last resort due to the possible side effects as listed above. In our opinion you are always better naturally supplementing your diet with a supplement such as Tongkat Ali and Exercise as opposed to running the risk of making your already lazy hormone system even lazier. These supplements are safe and work in a polar opposite fashion of direct hormone supplementation and can work to make your hormone system stronger and even make your testicles bigger because they will be producing more testosterone instead of less as they would in medical therapy where the basically go to sleep.
The Risks of Doctor Prescribed Testosterone Replacement Therapy According to Mayo Health :
- Contribute to sleep apnea — a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts
- Increase your risk of a heart attack
- Cause acne or other skin reactions
- Stimulate noncancerous growth of the prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) and growth of existing prostate cancer
- Enlarge breasts
- Limit sperm production or cause testicle shrinkage.
- Increase the risk of a blood clot forming in a deep vein (deep vein thrombosis), which could break loose, travel through your bloodstream and lodge in your lungs, blocking blood flow (pulmonary embolism)
